THE INVESTIGATIONAL DEVICE EXEMPTION (IDE) APPLICATION AND ASSOCIATED RECORDKEEPING AND REPORTING REQUIREMENTS HELP TO ENSURE THE SAFE USE OF INVESTIGATIONAL DEVICES IN HUMAN SUBJECTS. AN APPROVED IDE APPLICATION EXEMPTS A DEVICE FROM SEVERAL PROVISIONS OF THE FEDERAL FOOD, DRUG AND COSMETIC ACT.
