Abstract:
THE FOOD, DRUG AND COSMETIC ACT PROVIDES THAT A FOOD ADDITIVE WILL BE CONSIDERED UNSAFE UNLESS ITS USE IS PERMITTED BY A REGULATION WHICH PRESCRIBES THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH IT MAY BE SAFELY USED. THE INFORMATION SUBMITTED IN A STANDARD FORMAT PROVIDES FDA WITH THE NECESSARY INFORMATION TO: 1) SPEED THE PROCESSING OF THE PETITION, AND 2) EVALUATE THE SAFETY OF THE FOOD ADDITIVE.
