THE ADVANCE MONTHLY RETAIL SALES REPORT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF COLLECTING AND TABULATING EARLY MONTHLY ESTIMATES OF RETAIL SALES. THESE PUBLISHED ESTIMATES ARE USED WIDELY BY GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE AGENCIES AS THE EARLIEST INDICATOR OF CHANGES IN RETAIL SALES AT THE U.S. LEVEL.
