Abstract:
Rule 17a-4, which took effect in 1940, requires broker-dealers to preserve certain books and records for prescribed periods of time. The Commission is proposing amendments to Rule 17a-4 that would clarify the current requirements of such Rule, that would require broker-dealers to preserve certain additional records, and that would require broker-dealers to make certain books and records available in each of their local offices.
