In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 and 5 CFR 1320, this information collection is approved for 15 months. The agency is to provide upon future submission of this information collection documentation concerning the use and cost and hour burdens associated with this collection, including the cost burdens associated with the recordkeeping requirements and the E.coli testing programs (either laboratory costs and/or outside laboratory fees) and the cost and hour burdens associated with the Salmonella testing program and all verification efforts. The agency should also provide information on how the baseline surveys are conducted and justifications as to their validity. OMB also requests historical information to demonstrate the practical utility of this information collection, e.g. provide documentation on: the frequency and degree of SSOP modifications and/or violations and the enforcement actions resulting; the results of the first year of E.coli testing, including the frequency of violations of the performance criteria; and correlations between E.coli testing results and the detection of visible fecal matter by inspection personnel. Finally, since the practical utility of this collection is based upon the transition to a new regulatory system, the agency is to document in future submissions regulatory, paperwork, and cost burdens which have been phased out as a result of this new regulation.
