Terms of Clearance:
Approved through December 31, 1998 to extend current requirements to DOL's intended effective date of a final rule (scheduled for publication June 1998, effective beginning January 1999). OMB continues its April 2, 1996 terms of clearance (OMB comments filed on the information collection provisions contained in the proposed rule). See OMB's April 2, 1996 Notice of Action for those terms. As agreed by DOL, DOL will modify the public burden statement in the forms and Recordkeeping Guidelines to comply with PRA 95 requirements.

Abstract:
The OSH Act and 29 CFR part 1904 prescribe that certain employers maintain records of job-related injuries and illnesses. The data are needed by OSHA to carry out intervention and enforcement activities to guarantee workers a safe and healthful workplace. The data are also needed by the BLS to produce national statistics on occupational injuries and illnesses. Approximately 816,000 employers keep these records. Only 65 percent must record a case.
