Abstract:
We implemented this ban in March 2000 to prevent the introduction and spread of exotic ticks known to be vectors of heartwater diseases, an acute, infectious disease of cattle and other ruminants. Leopard, spurred, and hingeback tortoises already in the US can be moved interestate for sale, health care, adoption, or export to another country only if they are accompanied by a health certificate (also know as a certificate of veterinary inspection).
