Abstract:
This final rule adds mercury-containing equipment (for example, thermometers, barometers, manometers, mercury switches) to the Federal universal waste program as a means to encorage collection and proper management of mercry wastes. Handlers of universal wastes are subject to less stringent requirements for collecting, storing, and transporting these wastes. EPA has concluded that adding spent mercury-containing equipment to the list of federal universal wastes will lead to better managaement and increased collection of these materials and will facilitate compliance with the hazardous waste requirements.
