Abstract:
The FCC (Commission) requires providers of interconnected voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services to obtain: 1) location registration; 2) provisions of Automatic Location Information (ALI); 3) customer notification; 4) record of customer notification; and 4) user notification as a condition of providing service. Interconnected VoIP providers must provide that information to entities that maintain databases used to ensure that the caller's location and a call back number are provided to requesting public safety answering points when a 911 call is placed. The Commission also requires interconnected VoIP providers to ensure that end users understand any limitations of their service.

Short Statement:
Since the last submission to OMB in 2005, the Commission is revising this IC because the reporting requirement has been completed. Specifically, the FCC required all interconnected VoIP providers to submit a letter to the Commission detailing their compliance no later than November 28, 2005. That requirement is no longer part of this IC and the burden of 1,600 hours for that requirement has been removed from this IC (program change). The significant decrease in the number of respondents/responses is due to a comprehensive review of this fairly new collection after it has been implemented for 3 years. The estimated respondents and responses have been re-calculated.
Annual Cost to Federal Government:
