Abstract:
This collection of information is required by the Trademark Act, 15 U.S.C. 1051 et seq., which provides for the Federal registration of trademarks, service marks, collective trademarks and service marks, collective membership marks, and certification marks. Individuals and businesses that use or intend to use such marks in interstate commerce may file an application to register their marks with the USPTO. In some cases, the USPTO may issue an Office Action to request additional information before a mark can be registered. The USPTO is proposing to add 14 new requirements to this information collection, in TEAS, TEAS Global and paper formats.

Short Statement:
This collection is currently approved with 124,800 responses, 21,545 burden hours, and $1,517 in annual (non-hour) costs. The USPTO estimates that this renewal will increase the burden by 99,383 responses and 75,207 hours. These increases are due to program changes, resulting from the addition of 14 new items, and administrative adjustments, due to overall increases in the responses for some items. In addition, the USPTO estimates that this renewal will increase the annual (non-hour) costs by $3,090 due to program changes and administrative adjustments. The USPTO estimates that $4,338 in annual costs will be added to the collection due to the addition of eight new items. This increase is slightly offset by an administrative reduction of $1,248 due to reduced submissions for two existing items. Therefore, the USPTO estimates that the total burden for this renewal will be 224,183 responses, 96,752 burden hours, and $4,607 in annual (non-hour) costs.
Annual Cost to Federal Government:
$1,300,294
