Abstract:
This information collection request (ICR) focuses on the regulations at 30 CFR Part 580, Prospecting for Minerals Other than Oil, Gas, and Sulphur on the OCS, as well as on authorizations of noncommercial G&G activities for marine minerals, as authorized by the OCSLA. BOEM uses the information to ensure there is no environmental degradation, personal harm or unsafe operations and conditions; ensure the activities do not damage historical or archaeological sites or interfere with other uses; analyze and evaluate preliminary or planned mining activities; monitor progress and activities in the OCS; acquire G&G data and information collected under a permit or authorization offshore; and determine eligibility for reimbursement from the Government for certain costs. In this renewal, BOEM is renewing the use of form BOEM-0134, which serves as the instrument to authorize entities to carry out noncommercial exploration of marine minerals.
