Abstract:
As part of its fishery management responsibilities, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) requires vessels and processors participating in Federally managed groundfish and crab fisheries off Alaska to provide information through paper logbooks and other forms. This action would review an existing collection, the Alaska Region Logbook and Family of Forms. This collection supports an effective monitoring and enforcement system with information that includes: identification of the participating vessels, operators, dealers, and processors; location of the fishing activity; timeframes when fishing and processing is occurring; and shipment and transfer of fishing products. Collecting information from fishery participants is necessary in order to promote successful management of groundfish, crab, Pacific halibut, and salmon resources.
