Abstract:
The National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System is the nation's public health surveillance system used to monitor the occurrence and spread of nationally notifiable conditions. The NNDSS facilitates the submission and aggregation of case notification data voluntarily submitted to CDC from 60 jurisdictions including health departments in every U.S. state, New York City, Washington DC, 5 U.S. territories, and 3 freely associated states. It is the official source of statistics in the U.S. for nationally notifiable conditions and CDC is the sole repository for these national, population-based data. 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-n-CoV) to the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS). NNDSS is the nation’s public health surveillance system used to monitor the occurrence and spread of nationally notifiable conditions as well as some conditions under national standardized surveillance.
Emergency Justfication:
Much remains unknown about the etiology, transmissibility, and characteristics of 2019-nCoV, and as demonstrated by previous outbreaks of SARS-associated coronavirus and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), novel coronaviruses provide a significant threat of spreading among humans and causing severe illness. Early detection and intervention remains the best way to control the spread of novel infectious diseases, and complying with normal clearance timelines for 2019-nCoV would delay effective detection and control efforts, potentially threatening public health if this novel, poorly understood virus proves to be transmissible among humans, 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-n-CoV) to the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS).
