DOJ/DEA RIN: 1117-AB18 Publication ID: Fall 2011
Title: Disposal of Controlled Substances
Abstract: The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is proposing requirements to govern the secure disposal of controlled substances by both DEA registrants and ultimate users. This proposed rule will implement the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010 by providing ultimate users, long term care facilities, and other non-registrants safe and convenient options to transfer controlled substances for the purpose of disposal. The proposed rule also reorganizes and consolidates existing regulations on disposal, including the role of reverse distributors, and proposes a comprehensive regulatory framework for the collection and destruction of controlled substances consistent with the Controlled Substances Act.
