Title: Seizure and Forfeiture Procedures
Abstract: We propose to amend our regulations that establish procedures relating to property seized and administrative forfeiture under various laws we enforce. We intend this revision to provide uniform guidance for the bonded release, appraisement, administrative proceeding, petition for remission, and disposal of items subject to forfeiture. Also, we intend these revisions to provide for greater consistency of Service seizure and forfeiture procedures with those of the U.S. Customs Service. In August 2000, the Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act (CAFRA) became law. CAFRA mandated many changes to 50 CFR 12 that we will incorporate in a second proposed rule.
