Title: Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Special Rule Reclassifying Argentinean Broad-Snouted Caiman Population From Endangered to Threatened
Abstract: We received a petition to reclassify the population of the broad-snouted caiman (Caiman laitrostris) in Argentina from endangered to threatened in the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife established under the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (Act), as amended (Act). If we determine that the petition presents substantial scientific and commercial information indicating that reclassification, as petitioned, is warranted under the Act (i.e., 90-day finding), we will then initiate a status review of the species. Dependent upon the results of the status review, we may propose to change the classification of the broad-snouted caiman population in Argentina from endangered to threatened. The broad-snouted caiman is a crocodilian species native to Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
