Title: Canaveral National Seashore--Nudity
Abstract: This rule would close all areas within Canaveral National Seashore to public nudity. The number of nudists and confrontations with non-nudists has increased significantly over the past 15 years. Public nudity is forcing those user groups not wishing to be exposed to nudists from over 25 percent of the seashore. Visual contact with nudity offends individuals and restricts the park from offering educational programs, organized shoreline cleanup, walks, and other organized family activities in these areas. Public nudity also attracts individuals that participate in lewd and lascivious acts. This type of criminal activity is increasing annually. Attempts have been made to establish areas for nudists where contact and conflicts with other visitors is minimal and have proven unsuccessful. Brevard County has passed an anti-nudity ordinance, putting the National Park Service in conflict with a county law.
