EPA/WATER RIN: 2040-AB85 Publication ID: Fall 2008
Title: Shore Protection Act Regulations
Abstract: This rule would implement provisions of the Shore Protection Act (SPA) designed to prevent the deposit of municipal and commercial waste into U.S. coastal waters. This rule would establish minimum waste handling practices for vessels and waste handling facilities involved in the transport of municipal or commercial wastes in the coastal waters of the United States. The rule may require certain vessels and waste handling facilities to develop an operation and maintenance manual that identifies procedures to prevent, report, and clean up deposits of waste into coastal waters. Local governments and businesses involved with the vessel transportation and shore side handling of these wastes would be affected by this rule. Currently no tribes are known to be involved in waste handling of this type; therefore none would be affected by this rule.
