Title: Reconsideration of ES-2re
Abstract: This rulemaking would make minor amendments to part 572 in response to issues raised in petitions for reconsideration. On December 14, 2006, NHTSA issued a final rule incorporating the EuroSID-2re (ES-2re) side impact dummy into 49 CFR part 572. The agency received three petitions for reconsideration in response to the final rule. Petitions were submitted by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, Denton ATD, and First Technology Safety Systems. The petitioners raised concerns about the thorax qualification test procedures and the durability of the dummy in this test. They additionally petitioned on issues associated with the neck and lumbar spine qualification test specifications. They also requested corrections to references and changes to the drawing package.
