Title: ●Speech-to-Speech and Internet Protocol (IP) Speech-to-Speech Telecommunications Relay Services (CG Docket No. 08-15)
Abstract: This proceeding establishes a new docket, CG Docket No. 08-15, that stems from the general telecommunications relay service (TRS) docket, CG Docket No. 03-123. It concentrates on regulations related to Speech-to-Speech (STS) TRS. It includes an NPRM in which the Commission seeks comment on ways to improve the provision of STS, including, for example, whether to modify the minimum time period a communications assistant should be required to stay on a call, and ways to improve outreach associated with STS. The Commission also seeks comment on its tentative conclusion that Internet Protocol STS (IP STS) is a form of TRS eligible for compensation from the Interstate TRS Fund, as well as on related issues with respect to the provision, regulation, and compensation of IP STS.
