Title: Rule Concerning Disclosures Regarding Energy Consumption and Water Use of Certain Home Appliances and Other Products Required Under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 2007
Abstract: Section 324 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 requires the Commission to issue by July 1, 2008, labeling rules for metal halide lamp fixtures and ballasts that are subject to Department of Energy (DOE) efficiency standards. Although the statute does not require labeling for metal halide lamps themselves, these lamps are used to light large indoor areas, such as gymnasiums and sports arenas, as well as outdoor areas, such as car lots. In accordance with the directive, the FTC proposed amendments to the Appliance Labeling Rule for comment on April 28, 2008, and issued a final rule on July 9, 2008 (73 FR 39221). The Rule is effective January 1, 2009.
