Title: Changing Proprietary Term of Certain Geophysical Information
Abstract: Certain vintage geophysical information can have an enhanced value by processing or reprocessing. Under current regulations, when MMS retains this information, the permittee or third party has 5 years or less to benefit from this processing or reprocessing before the proprietary term expires. Early release of such valuable information could cost the industry considerable sums of money. The proprietary term can be extended only via rulemaking. This rule will revise the requirements governing release of this information.
