Title: Disposition of Archeological Materials
Abstract: This rule is necessary because some archeological materials subject to 36 CFR part 79 need not be preserved and maintained under Federal ownership if they are no longer of archeological interest. This determination may reduce management costs of federal archeological materials and constraints on storage space. This rule defines a process for disposing of archeological materials. The proposed rule focuses on disposal methods other than discarding and lays out a reasonable process for disposal that meets professional museum practices and standards.
