Title: ●Illinois State Plan for Public Employees Only--Initial State Plan Approval
Abstract: OSHA will propose to grant initial State Plan approval, under section 18 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and 29 CFR 1956, to the Illinois State Plan for Public Employees Only as submitted by the Illinois Department of Labor. The plan proposes to establish a program for the adoption and enforcement of standards applicable only to the employees of the State of Illinois and its political subdivisions (local government employees) within a 3-year developmental period, which will be at least as effective as Federal OSHAs private sector protection program. Written public comment will be sought on whether initial State plan approval should be granted and an opportunity to interested persons to request an informal public hearing, prior to final action granting initial approval of a developmental State Plan. Initial approval of the Illinois Public Employee Only State plan is contingent upon a determination that the plan meets, or will meet within three years, OSHAs initial plan approval criteria and the availability of Federal (50%) and State (50%) matching funds.
