Title: Third Party Accreditation for Children's Products Other Than Metal Jewelry Subject to the 300 ppm Lead Content Limit in the CPSIA | |
Abstract: Section 101 and section 102(a) of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), Public Law 110-314, 122 Stat. 3016 (August 14, 2008), require the Commission to publish notice of requirements for the accreditation of third party conformity assessment bodies (laboratories) to assess conformity with new requirements relating to children's products other than metal jewelry subject to the 300 ppm lead content limit in the CPSIA. The notice of requirements must be published not later than May 16, 2009. On January 30, 2008, the Commission voted 2-0 in favor of a Stay of Enforcement of Testing and Certification Requirements for certain products, including certain childrens products. The Stay is for one year and remains in effect until February 10, 2010, at which time the Commission will vote to terminate the stay. | |
