Title: ●List of Approved Spent Fuel Storage Casks: MAGNASTOR Addition [NRC-2008-0568]
Abstract: The direct final rule amends the Commission's regulations that apply to storage of spent fuel to add the MAGNASTOR cask system to the "List of Approved Spent Fuel Storage Casks" under the conditions specified in Certificate of Compliance (CoC) Number 1031. The MAGNASTOR system is a vertical, canister-based, dry storage system designed for interim storage of up to 37 pressurized water reactor spent fuel assemblies or up to 87 boiling water reactor spent fuel assemblies. This cask design consists of a transportable storage canister with welded closure, a concrete cask to contain the canister during the storage period, and a transfer cask to contain the canister during loading, transfer and unloading operations. The direct final rule allows the holders of power reactor operating licenses to store spent fuel in this approved cask system under a general license.
