Title: ●Response to Petitions for Reconsideration of FMVSS No. 208 Appendix A
Abstract: This rulemaking would respond to petitions for reconsideration of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208 appendix A final rule. NHTSA published a final rule on November 12, 2008, to amend FMVSS No. 208 "Occupant Crash Protection," to update the child restraints systems (CRSs) listed in appendix A of that standard. The final rule replaced existing CRSs listed in appendix A with CRSs that are more representative of the CRS fleet currently on the market. The agency received six petitions for reconsideration of the final rule. Lead time and phase-in requirements were the main petition issues. Other petition issues involved technical corrections and alternative replacement CRS requests. This final rule responds to all petition issues. There were no other changes to the test procedures of FMVSS No. 208 that would result in increased economic burden.
