Title: Death Gratuity Authorized for Federal Employees  
Abstract: The National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2008, which was signed in to law on January 28, 2008, resulted in the creation of a new section of the Federal EmployeesÂ’ Compensation Act. This section establishes a death gratuity payment of up to $100,000 for federal employees who die of injuries incurred in connection with the employee's service with an armed force in a contingency operation. This bill also contains a provision for retroactivity for employees who died on or after October 7, 2001.
