Title: Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR): Income Deductions | |
Abstract: This proposed rule would amend regulations for the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) at 7 CFR 253.6. The changes are intended to improve the administration of FDPIR and service to program applicants and participants, and respond to a resolution passed by the membership of the National Association of Food Distribution Programs on Indian Reservations (NAFDPIR). The proposed provisions would promote conformity with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by aligning FDPIR and SNAP regulations. The Department is proposing amendments that would: (1) expand the current income deduction for Medicare Part B Medical Insurance and Part D Prescription Drug Coverage premiums to include other allowable monthly medical expenses in excess of $35 for households with elderly and/or disabled members; (2) establish an income deduction for shelter/utility expenses; (3) eliminate the requirement for considering countable household resources in the eligibility determination; and (4) establish household verification requirements related to the proposed income deductions and revise household reporting requirements.
