Title: General Working Conditions for Shipyard Employment
Abstract: During the 1980s, OSHA initiated a project to update and consolidate the various OSHA shipyard standards that were applied in the shipbuilding, ship repair, and shipbreaking industries. The operations addressed in this rulemaking relate to general working conditions such as housekeeping, illumination, sanitation, first aid, and lockout/tagout. An estimated 100,000 workers are potentially exposed to these hazards each year. The proposed rule was published December 20, 2007, and public hearings were held in 2008.
