Title: Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Listing Determinations for Spectaclecase and Sheepnose Mussels
Abstract: We are making determinations regarding listing spectaclecase and sheepnose mussels under the Endangered Species Act. The sheepnose mussel is currently found in 26 tributary streams and mainstems of the Upper Mississippi, Lower Missouri, Ohio, Cumberland, Tennessee, and Lower Mississippi River systems. The spectaclecase mussel is currently known to occur in 20 streams in 10 States; however, 7 of the 20 extant populations are represented by only a single known specimen each and are likely not viable. Reproducing spectaclecase populations exist in the Meramec and Gasconade Rivers in Missouri, in the St. Croix River bordering Minnesota and Wisconsin, and in the Upper Clinch River in Tennessee.
