Title: Managing Cultural Resources; Policy
Abstract: We intend to establish Service policy for managing cultural resources (614 FW 1-7) for lands, facilities, and programs we administer on national wildlife refuges. We recognize cultural resources (archaelogical resources, historic and architectural properties and areas or sites of traditional or religious significance to Native Americans) as fragile, irreplaceable assets with potential public and scientific uses, representing an important and integral part of our nation's heritage. It is our policy to identify, protect, and manage cultural resources located on our lands and affected by our undertakings (any Service, Service-assisted, or Service-licensed or permitted project, activity, or program), in a spirit of stewardship and in compliance with cultural resource legislation, for future generations.
