Title: Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Special Rule for the Mojave Population of the Desert Tortoise
Abstract: In 1990, we listed the Mojave population of the desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) as a threatened species under the ESA. We plan to propose to issue special regulations for the Mojave population of the desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) If finalized, the proposed special regulations would provide an exemption from take provisions under the ESA for certain activities related to renewable energy projects on private lands. The regulations would also provide a mechanism to streamline the approval of renewable energy projects that would not result in substantial adverse effects to the desert tortoise on non-Federal lands.
