Title: ●Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Listing of the Franciscan Manzanita (or San Francisco Manzanita)
Abstract: We will announce a finding on December 23, 2009, petition to list Arctostaphylos franciscana (Franciscan manzanita, or San Francisco manzanita), a plant, as endangered, along with a concurrent proposed rule to list the species. The species was thought to be extinct in the wild, but a single plant was found growing in a road median on Federal land. The individual was transplanted in January 2010 to a new location on the Presidio of San Francisco, a unit of the National Park Service system on the San Francisco Peninsula. Critical habitat is not determinable at this time.
