Title: ●Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Technical Correction for African Wild Ass
Abstract: We are revising the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife via a direct final rule, to reflect the scientifically accepted taxonomy and nomenclature of the African wild ass, a foreign mammal species listed as endangered under the ESA (16 U.S.C. 1531 et seq.). This species is found in Somalia, Sudan, and Ethiopia. We will change the List (50 CFR 17.11(h)) to reflect the most recently accepted scientific name for the species, in accordance with 50 CFR 17.11(b) and the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. This rule will not alter the regulatory protections afforded to this species; rather, it will resolve the taxonomic discrepancy between the African wild ass and the domestic burro or donkey.
