Title: Test Procedures for Residential Furnace Fans
Abstract: DOE is initiating its first rulemaking to consider new energy conservation standards or energy use standards for purposes of circulating air through duct work, as required under 42 U.S.C. 6295(f)(4)(D). DOE commonly refers to these products as furnace fans. EPCA directs DOE to establish test procedures in conjunction with energy conservation standards for furnace fans(42 U.S.C. 6295(r)). To fulfill this requirement, DOE is simultaneously initiating a test procedure rulemaking for furnace fans in addition to the conservation standards rulemaking, which must be completed by December 31, 2013. DOE's test procedure is intended to provide an efficiency descriptor and the methods necessary to adequately measure the performance of the furnace fan for the purposes of developing energy conservation standards.
