Title: FMVSS No. 217, Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release
Abstract: This rulemaking would amend the language in FMVSS No. 217, S5.3.3.1, to address a petitioner´s concerns and to make other minor revisions and clarifications. The School Bus Manufacturers Technical Council (SBMTC) petitioned the agency to amend the requirements of FMVSS No. 217 regarding the location of the exterior release for school bus rear emergency exit doors. The petitioner requested that S5.3.3.1(a) be amended to clearly specify that the drawing which shows the horizontal location of the release for a rear emergency exit door applies only to the interior release and not to the exterior latch.
