The new device is a crash test dummy that represents a 3-year-old-child. The dummy, known as the Q3s, was developed to evaluate injuries to children in side impact crashes. If adopted into part 572, NHTSA would be able to propose the new dummy´s use in future side impact upgrades of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, child restraint systems.
