Title: Protection of Stratospheric Ozone: Amendment to HFO-1234yf SNAP Rule for Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Sector
Abstract: This action updated a rule requirement in the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) Program rule for HFO-1234yf to use the latest edition of a standard from Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International. The revised standard requires use of a more robust fitting that is less likely to leak than that currently cited in the March 29, 2011, SNAP rule allowing use of HFO-1234yf as a refrigerant in motor vehicle air conditioning (76 FR 17488). The update to the standard referenced in the rule reduces emissions and ensures consistency with industry standards.
