2127-AL31 201210 The Regulatory Plan and the Unified Agenda of Federal Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions 2127 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA 2100 Department of Transportation DOT Corrections and Minor Revisions to the MY 2014-2018 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards and Fuel Efficiency Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Engines and Vehicles National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) developed the first-ever program to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and fuel consumption in the heavy-duty highway vehicle sector. This broad sector – ranging from large pickups to sleeper-cab tractors – together represent the second largest contributor to oil consumption and GHG emissions from the mobile source sector, after light-duty passenger cars and trucks. The final rule was published in the Federal Register on September 15, 2011 (76 FR 57106). NHTSA is issuing this rulemaking to revise portions of the regulations in 49 CFR part 535 to correct technical errors and gaps identified in the promulgated MY 2014-2018 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards and Fuel Efficiency Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Engines and Vehicles final rule.
