Title: Personal Flotation Devices Labeling and Standards
Abstract: Industry standards which currently form the basis for Coast Guard approvals will be phased out by Underwriters Labs, making them no longer publicly available. Given these developments, the Coast Guard plans to incorporate the new standard by reference into Coast Guard regulations. This rulemaking project will: Incorporate new industry standards into Coast Guard approval requirements, improve PFD marking/labeling requirements, remove "Type codes" from Coast Guard approval and carriage requirements, harmonize U.S. PFD approvals with Canada, and clarify carriage requirements for recreational vessels.
