Title: ●Strengthening Oversight of F and M Nonimmigrant Students and Schools Certified to Enroll Them
Abstract: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) proposes to improve the capability of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) to oversee F and M students and designated school officials at schools certified to enroll them. To improve program oversight, DHS plans to institute new requirements for designated school officials (DSOs) to receive approval to serve as a DSO, and also to require online training for DSOs to ensure they are aware of the requirements of their role as a DSO. In addition, DHS may propose to require F and M nonimmigrant students engaging in flight training classes incident to their F and M status to report such training to their DSO. Improved oversight would help identify non-compliance with DHS requirements within these groups and better enable prevention of or intervention in potential criminal activities or threats to national security.
