Title: Safeguarding of Restricted Data
Abstract: The Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, spells out the requirements to grant access and to develop the protection requirements for Restricted Data (RD) and Formerly Restricted Data (FRD) to the Department of Energy. The current policy only contains requirements for licensees. The purpose of this revision is to provide language relating to Other Government Agencies (OGA) and their access to and safeguarding requirements for RD and FRD. This will better fulfill the intent of the policy and provide greater assurances that licensees and OGAs have clear and concise guidance as it pertains to RD. Because of the sensitivity of this type of information, failure to protect this information from unauthorized individuals could be much more costly and detrimental to National Security than implementation.
