Title: Fuel Tank and System Lightning Protection (RRR)
Abstract: This rulemaking would remove the requirement covering lightning ignition sources for fuel tank ignition prevention. It would also restate the intention to prevent catastrophic fuel tank vapor ignition due to lightning in the broader fuel system lighting protection requirements. This action is necessary because of the impracticality of controlling structural lightning ignition sources, which has resulted in a series of exemptions. This action would be cost-relieving as it would remove the need to comply with a specific requirement that has provided little or no safety benefits.
