Title: Designation of Medically Underserved Populations and Health Professional Shortage Areas
Abstract: The Affordable Care Act required the Secretary to establish a rulemaking committee to draft an interim final rule for designation of Medically Underserved Populations (MUPs) and Primary Care Health Professions Shortage Areas (HPSAs). The rulemaking committee was unable to reach the consensus required to produce an interim final rule for the Secretary's review and approval. However, the Affordable Care Act still requires the Secretary to issue an interim final rule.
