Title: Publishing Delinquent Debtor Information
Abstract:

The Department of the Treasury, Bureau of the Fiscal Service, is proposing to amend its regulation on Debt Collection Authorities Under the Debt Collection Improvement Act of 1996 (DCIA).  The DCIA authorizes Federal agencies to publish or otherwise publicly disseminate information regarding the identity of persons owing delinquent nontax debts to the United States for the purpose of collecting the debts, provided certain criteria are met. The proposed rule establishes the procedures Federal agencies must follow before publishing information about delinquent debtors and the standards for determining when use of this debt collection remedy is appropriate.
