Title: Acceptance Criteria for Portable Oxygen Concentrators Used Onboard Aircraft (RRR)
Abstract:

This rulemaking would establish acceptance criteria for portable oxygen concentrators to be used by passengers onboard aircraft. This rulemaking would apply only to any portable oxygen concentrators not already listed for use onboard aircraft whose manufacturers wish them to be able to be used onboard aircraft. The use of previously-listed portable oxygen concentrators would not be affected by this rule. Previously, the FAA would examine each portable oxygen concentrator to determine its suitability for use onboard aircraft. This rulemaking would relieve burdens for passengers who would no longer be required to obtain a statement from their physician regarding the use of the portable oxygen concentrator. It would also relieve burdens for domestic, flag, supplemental, commuter, on-demand, and fractional owner operators that would no longer be required to specifically have their flight crewmembers notified of the use of such portable oxygen concentrators onboard aircraft. Finally, it would relieve burdens for portable oxygen concentrator manufacturers who would no longer be required to have their portable oxygen concentrators specifically considered by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the FAA before those portable oxygen concentrators could be permitted to be used onboard aircraft.
