Title: ●Transponder Requirements for Gliders
Abstract:

The rulemaking would seek comments from the glider community on a proposal requiring gliders operating in the National Airspace System (NAS) to be equipped with transponders. This rulemaking is initiated in response to recommendations by both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. The purpose of this rulemaking is to gather information required to determine whether the current glider exception from transponder requirements and usage provides the appropriate level of safety in the NAS. The Federal Aviation Administration may use this information to determine the necessity of establishing additional transponder and usage requirements for gliders and to determine what those new requirements might include while considering cost and benefits.
