Title: Amendment to Regulation on Information Disclosure Under Section 6(b) of the CPSC
Abstract: Section 6(b) of the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA) governs information disclosure by the Commission to the public. In 1983, the Commission issued a regulation interpreting that statutory provision, 15 CFR part 1101. On January 14, 2014, staff submitted to the Commission a briefing package recommending a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to update the regulation. The proposed rule would streamline the regulation to be more closely aligned with section 6(b) and would modernize the regulation to account for improvements in information technology that have occurred since the regulation's adoption. On February 12, 2014, the Commission voted 2-1 to publish the NPRM as amended by the Commission. NPRM published in the Federal Register on February 26, 2014. Staff will send a final rule briefing package to the Commission for its consideration.
