Title: Amendment 36 to the Fishery Management Plan for the Snapper-Grouper Fishery of the South Atlantic Region
Abstract: The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council (Council) and National Marine Fisheries Service implemented eight deepwater marine protected areas through Amendment 14 to the Fishery Management Plan for the Snapper-Grouper Fishery of the South Atlantic Region. The marine protected areas were implemented to protect deepwater snapper-grouper species and their habitat. Through Regulatory Amendment 17, the Council is considering modifications to existing marine protected areas and the addition of new marine protected areas. The Councils goal is to further reduce bycatch mortality of speckled hind and warsaw grouper and increase protection to their deepwater habitat.
